Made of Honor Synopsis: Always shy of commitment, Tom lives as a serial dater. Hannah, his best friend, has wanted to marry and now has found Mr. Right — just as Tom realizes he really loves Hannah. When she asks him to be in her bridal party, Tom seizes the opportunity to prevent the nuptials and woo her himself. After a chance meeting in college, Tom and Hannah become best friends. Their friendship lasts into adulthood, where Tom (Patrick Dempsey) remains the playboy he was in college, and Hannah (Michelle Monaghan) remains the woman in his life whom he confides…

‘Much Ado About Nothing’ (2013) Review

09/09/2020

Much Ado About Nothing Synopsis: A modern retelling of Shakespeare’s classic comedy about two pairs of lovers with different takes on romance and a way with words. While this is a modern retelling of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, it stays true to the Bard’s language much in the same vein as Baz Lurhman’s spectacular take on Romeo and Juliet in 1996. Joss Whedon’s script stays faithful to the play, and while some characters are condensed, it doesn’t take away from the story at all. I’m a pretty big fan of William Shakespeare’s work, and I absolutely loved the…

‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’ (1997) Review

08/19/2019

Julianne (Julia Roberts) and Michael (Dermot Mulroney) have been best friends for nine years, ever since their hot fling in college settled into something far more platonic. They grew to be so close, in fact, that they made a pact that if they were both single when they turned 28, they would get married. When Julianne receives a call from Michael shortly before her 28th birthday, she’s a bit panicked that he may be calling to remind her of the pact… instead, she learns he’s calling to tell her he’s met someone and that they’re getting married that weekend. This…

‘Morning Glory’ (2010) Review

07/26/2019

Morning Glory Synopsis: An upstart television producer accepts the challenge of reviving a struggling morning show program with warring co-hosts. After being let go from her job, executive producer Becky Fuller (Rachel McAdams) finds herself in New York, producing a failing morning news show called Daybreak. It’s a challenge from the beginning, with a crowded office falling apart and low morale among staff. The co-hosts of the show are no treat either. Colleen Peck (Diane Keaton) is a diva, and Paul McVee (Ty Burrell) is an arrogant jerk with a foot fetish. Realizing she needs to make her mark on…

‘Miss Congeniality’ (2000) Review

05/14/2019

Miss Congeniality Synopsis: An F.B.I. Agent must go undercover in the Miss United States beauty pageant to prevent a group from bombing the event. I’ve been in sort of a movie slump lately, which sucks, but I’m also making pretty good headway with my Goodreads challenge! That being said, I watched Miss Congeniality on Saturday, and I realized I was dragging butt with my review, so I was determined to get it published today. Oi. Grace Hart (Sandra Bullock) is a tough, somewhat under-appreciated FBI Agent who is demoted to desk duty when her attempt to save a choking mobster…

‘Music and Lyrics’ (2007) Review

Once part of a popular 80’s boy band named Pop!, Alex Fletcher (Hugh Grant) is now a “washed up” musician struggling to get gigs years after the massive failure of his solo album. He embraces his “has been” status, aware that while he never achieved the level of success as his fellow bandmate and former friend Colin (Scott Porter), he can still cash in on his former glory by booking jobs at local fairs and high school reunions. Alex’s luck changes when reigning pop queen Cora Corman (Haley Bennett) reveals herself to be a fan of Pop! and asks Alex…
