TMP Television Edition: Globetrotting (Scripted): Wandering through the Shelves hosts a weekly movie challenge in which you choose 3-5 movies based on that Thursday’s theme and explain why you chose those movies. Today’s theme is Globetrotting, TV Edition. This was difficult because it’s scripted shows and that was hard to narrow down! But here are my choices!
HEROES (2006-2010)
The first season of this show was amazing. Full of so much potential! I have no idea what happened, but I don’t remember anything about the show beyond that. It just tried to do way too much. Honestly, I wish this had been a one-season show so I could talk about how great it was instead of how disappointing it became. But yes, heroes from all over the world were coming together to save the cheerleader, the world, etc. I haven’t watched season one since it aired, but here’s my little tribute to the show.
THE X-FILES (1993-2018)
The X-Files is one of my all-time favorite shows. I did stop watching around the end of season six when it was airing, but I’ve been rewatching the entire series since last October and am in the middle of season seven. I’m going to stick through it even after David Duchovny leaves… hopefully. But this show is/was amazing. While Mulder and Scully generally kept their travels to the domestic US, they did travel to Mexico and Europe in search of the truth (because it IS out there!).
FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER (2021)
I loved this show a lot. Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan had such amazing chemistry together, and I can’t wait to see what’s next for the two characters. Tracking down the Flag Smashers, they had to travel all over the world, so there was a lot of beautiful scenery in the action. You can always depend on Marvel to take you for a ride!

May 27, 2021I cannot believe that I forgot about The Falcon and the Winter Soldier!?!?! *sobs in Marvel fan* They literally all had the worst local accents for the places they included, but they did travel A LOT! Such a good pick!!!

May 27, 2021I think the only reason I thought of it was that I had watched it so recently! 😀 This was a tough category.

May 27, 2021Until about a month ago I would have said I’d never seen any of these regularly (I think I saw two episodes of Heroes but it wasn’t for me) but I happened to read that one of the local stations was going to start showing X-Files from the beginning and I’ve been following along. It never interested me when it was on but people talk about it so much I was curious and since I could start from episode one it seemed a good time to sample it. I’m up to season 4, it’s usually good (sometimes too graphic for me) but I can’t say I’m an ardent fan. I do love their boss Director Skinner though.
The limitations for this week didn’t trouble me since I don’t watch the shows it eliminated but there aren’t many globetrotting scripted shows out there at the moment. However back in the 60’s and 70’s they were quite in vogue thanks to the popularity of The Fugitive, The Man from U.N.C.L.E etc. and I was a fan of many of them so I reached back and chose three I remember fondly.
It Takes a Thief (1968-1970)-Master cat burglar Alexander Mundy (Robert Wagner) is granted his release from prison on the proviso that he work with the US government using his particular skills to obtain sensitive info that they need to keep the world safe. Under the direction of agent Noah Bain (Malachi Thorne) who explains “Look Al, I’m not asking you to spy, I’m just asking you to steal!” Mundy jetted around the world to exotic locales on various jobs sometimes accompanied by his elegant thief of a father Alistair (Fred Astaire).
The Persuaders! (1971-1972)-After coming to blows in a bar fight fantastically rich globetrotting playboys English Lord Brett Sinclair (Roger Moore) and American Danny Wilde (Tony Curtis) are prevailed upon by the presiding judge to team up to use their distinctive expertise to solve crimes that have baffled the police. At first reluctant they soon become fast friends and adroit crime stoppers in far-flung spots around the world. The series only lasted a year because Moore departed to become the new James Bond.
Run for Your Life (1965-1968)-When attorney Paul Bryan (Ben Gazzara) is told by his doctor he has a terminal disease and will die within nine to eighteen months he decides he has a whole lot of livin’ to do and hits the road. Week after week Paul heads to a new place and new adventures as a man constantly on the move.

May 28, 2021I love that we match on two of them! The X Files was one of my favorite shows growing up too.

May 29, 2021It’s amazing how Heroes hasn’t even crossed my mind for this theme and yet I loved the first season. I don’t remember much about the second but I guess it wasn’t that good because I stopped watching it after that. I haven’t seen the other two but I will watch The Falcon and the Winter Soldier sooner or later because I love Sebastian Stan too much to ignore it.

June 10, 2021Yeah it’s amazing how quickly Heroes lost its mojo. I think they just tried too hard in season two and forgot what made season one so great.

May 29, 2021The only one I have seen is The X-Files which I always enjoyed watching even though the alien theme seemed to go all wonky. I haven’t seen the others but I would like to see the Marvel one.
Sara
June 10, 2021Yeah the monster of the week standalone episodes of The X-Files were always my favorite. I enjoyed the alien arc but after awhile it seemed like they weren’t sure how to wrap it up.

May 30, 2021The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was amazing. (I might be a bit biased though, as I am partial to anything that has Sebastian Stan in it 😅)
Sara
June 10, 2021I can’t argue with you there. I enjoy SebStan myself 😀

June 3, 2021Heroes – Only the first season was good. Worst…they tried to revive it it with Heroes Reborn and that was another fail.
Sara
June 10, 2021I completely forgot about Heroes Reborn! So that should tell you something. lol
