- Ryan Gosling has a fear of heights, but still did the 150-foot fall at the beginning of the movie.
- The movie is based loosely on The Fall Guy (1981). In it, Lee Majors played Colt Seavers, a Hollywood stuntman who also moonlights as a bounty hunter when there is little movie work. Majors and the show’s famous vehicle, the 1981 GMC K-2500 Wideside, have cameos in the film, as does his co-star Heather Thomas, who played Jody Banks in the series.
- David Leitch, a former stuntman himself, said that he made The Fall Guy as a “love letter” to the stunt community, giving them the recognition they deserve.
- While rehearsing the reunion scene between Colt and Jody, Emily Blunt wore a large hat that kept getting knocked off when a nearby helicopter landed. Co-star Ryan Gosling thought this would make for a funny interaction and encouraged Blunt to wear the hat during filming.
- Ryan Gosling had a chance encounter with Steven Spielberg, who told him he loved this movie. Gosling said, “As far as I’m concerned, it doesn’t matter anymore what happens. Steven Spielberg liked it. That was an all-time moment for me. I’m really excited for people to see it. I think it’s a really special movie."
