The Love Hypothesis novel was originally Star Wars fanfiction, written in 2018. Ali Hazelwood reworked it to become a contemporary romance about Adam and Olive. The male main character is named Adam in reference to Adam Driver, who played Ben Solo.
Tom Bateman is married to actress Daisy Ridley, whose Star Wars character Rey inspired one half of the romantic pairing in this movie.
Adam has a musical theme strongly reminiscent of the Star Wars franchise's Imperial March, composed by John Williams.
