Stephen Root Knows a Good Curse When He Sees One

In a recent interview with Vulture, Stephen Root discusses his four decades as a working actor, building a reputation as one of Hollwood’s most reliable charactor actors. His first Emmy nomination came in 2019 for his work as Monroe Fuches in HBO’s dark comedy, Barry. Now, seven years later, Root is being recognized again, this time for his role as island oddball Wyck Crawford in Widow’s’ Bay.

He also reveals what he hopes to see for Wyck in season two:

We’re in the dark at the moment, and that’s okay. Katie will tell us what we need to know. I’ll give you my guess, which is that you will see Kingston Rumi-Southwick a lot more in season two. But beyond that I’m hoping Wyck and his old girlfriend will have a little more of a backstory.

As for talk of potential spinoffs, Root is hesitant to break up the group of people involved in Widow’s Bay, but admits a prequel could be the way to go, especially if we got to see Wyck as a teenager.

That I can see 100 percent. A prequel would be, I think, fantastic. I would love that because we’d get to see a lot more backstory about the island itself.

Until season two airs, fans will have to be content with rooting on Stephen and the rest of the cast when the 78th Emmy Awards air on September 14th. Widow’s Bay is nominated for a whopping 19 Emmys. Root is up for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy.
