Thursday Movie Picks: Movies with a Body Part in the Title

Movies with a Body Part in the Title

Wandering through the Shelves hosts a weekly movie challenge in which you choose 3-5 movies based on that Thursday’s theme and explain why you chose those movies.

Today’s theme is Movies with a Body Part in the Title so here are my choices!

Playing by Heart (1998)

Playing by Heart is a romantic dramedy that tells the story of “several seemingly unconnected characters”. I watched this ages ago when I started dating my now-husband, and I remember loving it. I really do need to watch it again. It has a fabulous cast – Sean Connery, Gena Rowlands, Gillian Anderson, Madeline Stowe, Ryan Philippe, and Angelina Jolie, to name a handful. It’s a sweet story about several intertwining love stories.

Heartburn (1986)

Nora Ephron wrote the screenplay based on her own novel – Heartburn – which is a semi-biographical account of her marriage to Carl Bernstein. Rachel, a food critic, falls in love with Mark, a D.C. newspaper columnist. As they try to build a life together, it becomes clear that Mark is not fit for marriage. I’ve not yet seen this film, but I adore Nora Ephron, so I am sure I will eventually.

Where the Heart Is (2000)

Novalee Nation is a pregnant teenager abandoned by her boyfriend in a Wal-Mart in Sequoyah, Oklahoma, where she eventually gives birth. Soon after, she’s taken in by a nurse named Lexie. It’s in Sequoyah that Novalee starts a new life and eventually falls in love again. I really enjoyed the novel on which this story is based, and I think the movie did a wonderful job with the adaptation.
