Thursday Movie Picks: Fantasy

Fantasy

Wandering through the Shelves hosts a weekly movie challenge in which you choose 3-5 movies based on that Thursday’s theme and explain why you chose those movies.

Today’s theme is Fantasy, so here are my choices! I decided to stick close to the theme of my entire blog – romance!

The Lake House (2006)

Lonely Dr. Kate Forster exchanges letters with architect Alex Wyler, and correspondence grows into love, but the two realize that they are living in the same house two years apart. To be together, they must unravel the mystery behind their extraordinary romance–knowing that their quest may destroy the link that has allowed them to fall in love. I’ve only seen The Lake House once, back when it was in theaters, but I do own it on DVD. How can you go wrong with Keanu and Sandy B.? You can’t!

Isn't It Romantic? (2019)

New York City architect Natalie works hard to get noticed at her job but is more likely to be asked to deliver coffee and bagels than to design the city’s next skyscraper. And if things weren’t bad enough, Natalie, a lifelong cynic when it comes to love, has an encounter with a mugger that renders her unconscious, waking to discover that her life has suddenly become her worst nightmare—a romantic comedy—and she is the leading lady. Isn’t It Romantic? is a really fun parody of rom-coms, and it was one of my favorite movies of 2019.

13 Going on 30 (2004)

With the help of some magic wishing dust, 13-year-old Jenna Rink becomes 30 and gorgeous overnight, with everything she ever wanted, except for her best friend, Matt. Now, this grown woman must create some magic of her own to help the little girl inside find the true love she left behind. This is a rom-com classic, and you can’t convince me otherwise.
