SPOILERS AHEAD.
Fear Street Part Two: A summer of fun turns into a gruesome fight for survival as a killer terrorizes Camp Nightwing in the cursed town of Shadyside.
Fear Street Part Two finds us in 1978. Jumping off where Part One ended, Deena and her brother track down C. Berman, a 1978 Camp Nightwing Massacre survivor. They believe that C. Berman survived the witch that has now possessed Deena’s girlfriend, Sam, and they’re looking for help. Berman is now living as a recluse with her dog, Major Tom, and while she doesn’t want anything to do with Deena’s problem, she eventually relents and tells Deena and Josh about what happened that summer night at camp.
I donât think you go from a sweet girl with dreams to ripping someoneâs insides out with a switchblade.
One of my favorite horror tropes is summer camp slashers. Being out in the woods during the summertime, surrounded by friends, having “fun.” And then horror strikes and the blood starts to spill. Morbid? Of course! And that’s exactly what happens in Fear Street Part Two.
We find that C. Berman’s name (or rather, nickname) is Ziggy. A group of girls from Sunnyvale bullies her, and she constantly gets into trouble. Her older sister Cindy is a by-the-book camp counselor, hoping to save enough money to get out of Shadyside for good.
Cindy’s boyfriend, Tommy, is also a counselor, as well as Cindy’s ex-best friend, Alice. Things start to unravel when the camp nurse, Mrs. Lane, attacks Tommy with a knife. She is then sedated and taken to the hospital. That night, Cindy, Tommy, Alice, and Alice’s boyfriend, Arnie, find a cave opening with clear signs of witchcraft. Then, someone in the group is possessed and goes on an ax-wielding massacre through the camp.
One way or another, youâre gonna die tonight.
Fear Street Part Two ties quite nicely into the first, and I really do love how the trilogy is taking us backward in time to put the pieces together rather than starting at the beginning. I like Sadie Sink a lot in Stranger Things, and she’s really growing on me as an actress. This particular installment is definitely much gorier than the first, and it pays tribute to the old-school slasher movies of the ’70s. Unlike the first movie, 1978 goes full throttle with horror, which I thoroughly appreciated. I think this is my favorite part so far. It was atmospheric and creepy, and I’m excited to see the final installment on the 16th.
Starring: Sadie Sink, Emily Rudd, Gillian Jacobs, Ryan Simpkins, McCabe Slye, Ted Sutherland, Kiana Madeira, Olivia Scott Welch, Benjamin Flores Jr.
