🚂 Holiday Affair (1949): Just before Christmas, de 🚂 Holiday Affair (1949): Just before Christmas, department store clerk Steve Mason meets big spending customer Connie Ennis, who’s actually a comparison shopper sent by another store. Steve lets her go, which gets him fired. They spend the afternoon together, which doesn’t sit well with Connie’s steady suitor, Carl, when he finds out, but delights her young son Timmy, who quickly takes to Steve.

Review Excerpt: At times, it feels as though Holiday Affair struggles with deciding whether it wants to be a melodrama or a screwball comedy. It doesn’t commit to either. A few of the emotional beats also come across as contrived, but the actors are so likable that it’s easy enough to overlook them. Ultimately, Holiday Affair is a likable enough romance. Janet Leigh is luminous, and Robert Mitchum is a calming presence, but it’s definitely more stocking stuffer than showpiece. Still… it’s worth unwrapping at least once!

⛪️ Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994): A British ⛪️ Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994):
A British man named Charles and an American woman named Carrie go through numerous weddings before they determine if they are right for one another.

Review Excerpt: Four Weddings and a Funeral is a movie I had wanted to see for a very long time, but I found that I was more invested in the lives of the secondary characters than the love story between Charles and Carrie, and unfortunately, we don’t get as much insight into them as I would have liked. Is it wrong I was rooting for Fiona (Kristin Scott Thomas) here? I felt I had a better grasp of her character than MacDowell’s. This is not my favorite of Hugh Grant’s rom-com resume, but this movie did introduce us to the awkward, bumbling style he’s perfected, so it was good for something.

Can two friends sleep together and still love each other in the morning?
During their travel from Chicago to New York, Harry and Sally debate whether or not sex ruins a friendship between a man and a woman. Eleven years later, and they’re still no closer to finding the answer.

Good Boy (2025): A man moves into a new home that Good Boy (2025): A man moves into a new home that has supernatural forces lurking in the shadows. As dark entities start to threaten him, his brave dog comes to the rescue.

Review Excerpt: While there are plenty of horror elements to be found in Good Boy, including a couple genuinely frightful jump scares, the movie, at its core, is an emotional one. It focuses on Indy’s loyalty to his owner, the vulnerability of both, and how far we go to try to protect someone from something that is, unfortunately, inevitable. If there are any real nitpicks I have with Good Boy, it is that the story itself feels a little thin, but ultimately that didn’t matter much to me. I found it to be just the right length, conveying everything it needed to with the time it had. It’s an accomplished horror film that manages to be both frightening and heartbreaking all at once.

Review Excerpt: Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga once again prove why they’ve been the backbone of this series. Their chemistry hasn’t faded a bit, and even when the frights don’t land, their performances keep you invested. This time, their daughter Judy (Mia Tomlinson) steps more into the spotlight, adding a sense of legacy to the Warren story. She’s a likable presence, but the extra focus on her sometimes pulls away from the tension of the main haunting.

🐽 Penelope (2006): Forlorn heiress Penelope Wilher 🐽 Penelope (2006): Forlorn heiress Penelope Wilhern is cursed, and the only way out is to fall in love with someone of suitable stock. But how can she find her soul mate when she’s sequestered inside her family’s estate with only her parents to keep her company. This untraditional fairy tale about a girl who bucks convention to create her own happy ending.

Review Excerpt: I loved that the film maintains a whimsical tone without being overly cutesy. It’s supported by a clever script that keeps its emotional core in focus. The film’s greatest strength lies in its message. Unlike many love stories, Penelope is not about being saved by someone else; it’s about choosing yourself, completely and unapologetically.

Review Excerpt: Happy Gilmore 2 isn’t a hole-in-one, but it’s a respectable par. If you loved the original, you’ll likely enjoy seeing these characters back in action. For me, there were enough solid laughs to make it worth watching. Sandler still has plenty of chaotic, comic energy left, even if the story itself plays it safe.

💎 Out of Sight (1998): A career bank robber breaks 💎 Out of Sight (1998): A career bank robber breaks out of jail, and shares a moment of mutual attraction with a U.S. Marshal he has kidnapped.

Review Excerpt: Steven Soderbergh’s Out of Sight is more than just a slick crime caper. It’s a slow-burn romance wrapped in a heist movie, smoldering with chemistry and cleverness. Adapted from Elmore Leonard’s novel, the film pulls off a tricky balancing act: stylish without being shallow, sexy without being obvious, and romantic without losing its edge.

Clooney and Lopez have undeniable, electric chemistry, easily among the most compelling on-screen pairings of the ‘90s. The way they circle each other, flirt without saying much, and finally collide in a beautifully edited hotel room sequence is the movie’s highlight. It’s both hot and meaningful. You believe they want each other, but you also think they shouldn’t. That tension carries the entire film.

🪝I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025): A group o 🪝I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025): A group of friends are terrorised by a stalker who knows about a gruesome incident from their past.

Review Excerpt: Similar to Scream 5, this legacy sequel shifts its focus to a new group of friends, each harboring their own secrets. The standout performances are from Madelyn Cline and Chase Sui Wonders, who play BFFs Danica and Ava. They lead the younger cast with confidence and enough chemistry to keep the film enjoyable even when the script stumbles. Their dynamic feels like a direct tribute to Julie and Helen Shivers (RIP), adding heart to the horror.

Despite its shortcomings, I Know What You Did Last Summer remains a fun, blood-soaked ride. It may not be original in any sense, but that doesn’t matter. The film delivers on its promise of a slick, slightly campy slasher with nostalgic throwbacks, solid scares, and notable performances from its new leads.

Not every kill lands, and not every twist is coherent, but there’s enough humor, heart, and horror to make it a worthwhile watch, especially if you’re a fan of the original.
